Unit 20 - ICT Solutions for People with Individual Needs

See the Abilities first, then the Disabilities, then explore the Possibilities

The purpose of this unit is to gain an understanding of the ways technology can be used to support people who have special or individual needs due to disability or impairment.

The candidate will need to understand the special needs relating to a variety of disabilities and explore ways that access technology can enable individuals to live and work more independently despite a disability.

Candidates should explore and understand the various disabling factors and the ways people with different disabilities cope with challenging tasks.

A disabled person is first and foremost a PERSON.  A disabled person, regardless of the disability, may well be a very ABLE person - there are many things they CAN do - as well as some things they CAN'T do.

With the aid of technology there may be other things the person can do... See the ABILITIES first, then the DISABILITIES, then explore the POSSIBILITIES

This unit was written by Bob Parsons and he is available to run workshops or provide online tuition.
