Oh No! Not ANOTHER Newspaper for Sark!
In a community the size of Sark it could easily be argued that news,
information and opinions spread well enough to make printed information
superfluous - but is that really so? Ideas and concerns are freely
debated in the pubs, clubs, societies and even in the Avenue but a
journal enables readers to explore a wider range of views.
To make this work, a journal must publish a variety of opinions, some
of which may occasionally be controversial, some may represent minority
views, some may challenge the establishment, some may well conflict with
the editor’s opinion. In short, a journal should reflect the views and
opinions of its readers!
It should reflect the society that it serves and therefore it must
have a range of contributing writers - people who have news, opinions
and information to share.
The journal should shine a beacon of light on all shades of opinion
With that in mind, I suggest Sark would benefit from an independent
monthly newsletter that encourages contributions from groups, clubs,
societies and individuals, from within our community and, maybe, from
some visitors as well.
